Keeping up the impressively with-it momentum from the past 6 releases, the Sound of Copenhagen series puts out another quality compilation containing a diverse cast of Copenhagen characters. This particular release stands out in an unfortunate way, however, because of the untimely death of one of the series’ founders, The great DJ and music lover, Kjeld Tolstrup.
The first part of Sound of Copenhagen Vol. 7 contains both Copenhagen-based dub-techno excursions and Balearic odysseys, while the second disc is, quite fittingly dedicated to the larger-than-life DJ whose wide-ranging influence on Copenhagen’s nightlife you really can’t stress enough. Everything from Eddie Murphy’s stint with Rick James to seminal, avant-disco genius Arthur Russel is thrown into the Kjeld Tolstrup tribute, and it gives you a sense of his wonderful, eclectic taste.
