Swiss-based Lucien Nicolet, or Luciano as most of the world knows him, has been active on the global techno scene for quite a while. He started DJing in the early to mid 90s in his native Chile alongside Latin American contemporaries such as Dandy Jack, and he has since then gone on to produce landmark albums and singles that have stood the test of time
For our money, the Album Blind Behaviour, which he produced under the moniker Lucien –n- Luciano, is as glaringly relevant today as it was when it was released in 2004.
Luciano’s mix of latin rhythm patterns and subtle electronic experimentation skillfully resonates the mixed up world we live in, while still finding its own distinct voice. This electic dynamic has been transferred to his label Cadenza, the global purveyor of all things minimal, which has been a steady and persistent influence on the narrative of house and techno throughout the latter part of the noughties.
It’ll be interesting to see where Luciano takes minimal house in the new decade.
