An end of year list that doesn’t involve music!

There’s something about volcanoes that speaks to the 10-year-old in most of us. The sheer, colourful spectacle of it all sort of lets you drink the glowing lava and gauzy ash and smoke with your giddy, little eyes.

And 2011 was a cracking year for volcano viewing as you can tell from these images provided by The Atlantic. Lightning mixed with volcanic smoke in Chile and there was even a bit of underwater action around the Canary Islands.

Listening to your favourite, epic, maximalist music while viewing the great series here, is highly recommended.
