This time around the Lebanon and Abu Dhabi-based MZ Architects have thrown themselves into designing a sports facility stadium in the middle of Al Ain in Abu Dhabi, and they truly are pushing the boundaries.

With a visionary approach the design, architecture and landscape are merged into a futuristic 200,000 m2 area and 40,000 seats sunken into the cooler depths of the burning hot desert. The architectural expression reminds you of old examples of temples and amphitheatres where the gladiators fought - like the way the overwhelming entrance in the ground creates a monumental approach similar to the entrance of the Persian Temple of Anahita.

This sculptural language merges old history and new technology in a way hasn't really been seen before.
