Get a load of this fresh, new edition of Lomography’s analogue, hand-crank camera that comes complete with signature and material from 2010 Palme D’Or winner Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
Playing up to the current obsession with all things analogue, The Lomokino Mubi Edition is a new, special edition of Lomography’s hand-crank camera, the vintage technology that lets you capture experimental Lomographic movies on 35mm film.
Although the Lomokino probably won’t yield the next big Hollywood blockbuster (actually, that’s probably unlikely in the extreme), it does provide you with the feel of the roots of moviemaking - and at a time where we’re surrounded by digital, touch screen technology 24-7, it also presents an alternative way of documenting our surroundings that’s more than just quaintly charming.
Thai Independent film maker Apichatpong Weerasethakul, a man who knows a thing or two about film-making, has created film the film Ashes, for this collaboration between Mubi and Lomography and every edition comes with a scene from the movie. All in all, this should make an enticing proposition for gear heads and aspiring, experimental filmmakers alike.
