Those kind, knowledgeable nerds at BBC Four have treated us to another life-affirmingly intense tour de force of seminal music with the documentary ’Synth Britannia’. Perfect for relaxing, Suntory times on the couch.
If you have an hour to spare over the weekend, this is your ticket. It’s basically a thorough, in-depth documentation on how the gritty sound of post-punk transformed into the futuristic synthetic timbres of Cabaret Voltaire, OMD, Gary Numan and so on. Loads of anecdotes, many ageing but vivacious faces and a good helping of relevant journalists make up this stellar documentary that doesn’t cut corners or take any prisoners. It’s been around for a while, but is now available in its full, glorious length on Youtube.
