Junior Boys enlist the skilled hands of Dan Snaith on remixing duties.
Clocking in at 8:27 minutes, Dan Snaith’s remix of Junior Boys latest single is hardly radio-friendly. And it isn’t exactly the kind of gleaming yet organic, electronic pop you’d excpect from a Junior Boys/Caribou hook-up either. In the beginning all is quiet on the Western Front as resonant bleeps puncture the classic, crisp Junior Boys synth, weaving a seductive yet familiar organic/electronic pattern that’s equal parts Junior Boys and Caribou. But then something happens around 2:50 that completely changes up the pace, the aesthetic and possibly even the rule book a little as a distorted, percussive/digital sound takes centre stage and leaves you wondering if you’re actually listening to the Caribou remix.
It’s not what you’d expect but it is most definitely a good thing. We could see this twisted, minimal banger being equally at home at a Berlin gallery opening and a rave in Rio.
