Going into space changes people.
Now while that may sound like an obvious statement, there’s certainly nothing inane about the way that this particular journey has altered the overall perspective of the few, lucky astronauts who experienced the grand vastness of space and viewed our planet from orbit. ‘Overview’ is a short, powerful documentary that earnestly disarms whatever cynicism you might be harboring in 19 breathtaking, life-affirming minutes.
Opening with Fred Hoyle’s remarkably prophetic quote:’ Once a photograph of Earth, taken from the outside, is available… a new idea as powerful as any in history will be let loose’, this video promises lofty ambition and delivers in full.
During the span of the strikingly shot 19 minutes, the interviewed astronauts all talk about having experienced a sort of spiritual epiphany, which has brought them to the realization that everything on our planet is connected. For some of you, this may read a little as your run-of-the-mill, naive, tree-hugging parlance, but we can assure you that 'Overview' is anything but simplistic.
If anything, it manages to communicate thoroughly complex ideas in a beautifully succinct way that should resonate forcefully with anyone who’s ever reflected on the general state of things.
In other words, taking a few minutes out of your day to watch this comes highly recommended.
