On Saturday the good people of Get Deep throw their monthly party at about/blank in Berlin. The guys always present ambitious line-ups but this time they have surpassed themselves. Headlining the event is none other than the legendary Greg Wilson.
Who is Greg Wilson? Well, he is more or less the DJ king of England, however not related to Her Majesty the Queen but still a king in his own right. Greg Wilson pioneered the UK scene during the 70s & 80s. He held a residency at La Hacienda in Manchester starting the club's first weekly dance night and was the first DJ to mix live on British television in 1983.
He is also credited for putting together the first UK re-edit and teaching Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim the art of scratching.
From 1984-2003 he took a break from DJing but resurfaced almost 20 years later and he is now playing all over the world. He is a must see for all music lovers!
Sunday in the Garden
One of the good things about the venue is the big garden, where Sundays often turn into Mondays during the summer. I was there last week to see Erobique and it was truly amazing.
Performing on Sunday are the mysterious duo Usio, who recently released their debut album on Studio Barnhus. I don’t know much about them, but since they're from the Axel Boman stable my expectations are high.
Furthermore, the lovely trio Brandt Brauer Frick are playing an afternoon DJ set. One of the members recently lost his DJ license after playing too many shitty songs in a row. The courts have decided to give him a second chance and he is now on DJ probation. Good luck.
Last but not least I have the pleasure of playing an all night back2back set with Max Graef in room 2.
