Oldschool skateboarding fans rejoice, the story of Powell Peralta and the Bones Brigade is set to screen at the Sundance Festival in 2012.
From Stacy Peralta, the director who brought you the already legendary ‘Dogtown and Z-boys’ comes a new skate documentary that looks at the seminal Bones Brigade crew, which Peralta was a part of.
Some of us old people remember having the iconic Powell Peralta skeleton peering out of our ribcages back in the late 80s/early 90s when men were men, and Avril Levigne’s ‘Skaterboy’ had not yet turned skating into a happy-go-lucky pastime for Blink 182-listening Justin Bieber haircuts.
Skaters like Tommy Guerrero, Mike McGill, Lance Mountain, Steve Caballero and the great Tony Hawk ruled the world with their unparalleled skating and rad graphics; Thrasher was bought every month; the tiny suburban streets of northern Copenhagen were skated thin.
It was an intense and exciting time for skating, which is why we’re quite amped to see this new, retrospective documentary that tells the story of the Bones Brigade. Let’s hope it hits Europe within a foreseeable future...
