Hudson Mohawke Shares Unreleased Remixes via his Soundcloud

You know how the saying goes: ‘If a man is tired of Hudmo, he’s tired of living.’ Or maybe that’s not exactly how the saying goes, but we think you catch our drift. The gifted Glaswegian producer has, once gain, got us hooked with this typically outstanding selection of neon-tinted, brass-infused, bass-heavy belters.

New Flavour in Your Ear: Erosion Flow - 'Bedroom Jam'

Straight outta Copenhagen, Henrik Koefod AKA Erosion Flow drops a new EP packing a tight list of low-slung, grime-tinged house and hazy, beat-driven electronica. Having already been featured on XLR8R and now set to share the stage with acts like Simian Mobile Disco, Bicep and Oneman at the Somerley Tea Party Festival, we dare say that this particular young Copenhagen upstart looks destined for big things.

Interview: Max Graef

Posted in Interviews by Ulrik

There’s a new kid in town. More specifically, Berlin. His name is Max Graef, he makes the city's densest, dustiest, most mood-altering, jazz-influenced beats - and he is actually sort of still a kid at the tender age of 21. We had a chat with the promising young wunderkind about jazz, the inspirations that went into creating his delectable new game-changer of an album - and paying for beers you didn’t necessarily drink.

Glenn Branca – Sounds from the Subconscious

Glenn Branca – Sounds from the Subconscious

When Glenn Branca, one of the most prolific and prominent voices to come out of New York’s late 70s - 80s musical avant-garde, speaks you really should listen. Not only because his uncompromising attitude to musical experimentation is considered to be one of the main forerunners of bands like Sonic Youth, but also for the reason that his singular, wonderfully winding and fucked up take on the guitar sounds as fresh and relevant today as it did some 30-40 years ago. Provinding an insight into the artistic subconscious that contributed significantly to tearing open the fabric of popular music, this short but sweet interview with the Louisiana Channel is also good for a few shrewdly perceptive, creative truths along the way.

Young Turks New Year's Eve Party in Tulum Featuring Grimes, The XX, John Talabot and SBTRKT

Young Turks New Year's Eve Party in Tulum Featuring Grimes, The XX, John Talabot and SBTRKT

Over the course of a relatively short span of time, Young Turks has gone from containing a bunch of 18-year-old party promoters to being one of the most important independent record labels of our time. Ardent followers of the British music scene have been privy to the awesomeness of the Young Turks label for a long while as their steady stream of quality releases from The XX, Chairlift, Sampha, SBTRKT, John Talabot and Koreless, among others, have cemented their position as a vibrant, boundary-pushing music hub. And we have a feeling that this video of their New Year’s beach party in Tulum, Mexico, will only serve to strengthen the growing consensus that Young Turks are a musical force to be reckoned with.

Watch the Trailer for Warpaint’s New Chris Cunningham-directed Documentary

Watch the Trailer for Warpaint’s New Chris Cunningham-directed Documentary

Yes, that’s right, THE Chris Cunningham, warped genius of ‘Rubber Johnny’ and Aphew Twin’s ‘’Come to Daddy’ fame. Seems like an odd match on the face of it, but our general feeling is that the upcoming documentary might just be sensationally good as we’ve just learned that Chris Cunningham is in fact husbanding Warpaint’s bassist Jenny Lee Lindbergh. And we’re assuming that this would give the longhaired director of cutting edge filth access to areas that other directors who are, shall we say, less intimate with the band might not have access to. Anyhow, the trailer looks pretty neat. Check it out.

Michael Mayer Rocks TMA-1s in the Boiler Room

Kompakt’s legendary co-founder gets real on the 1s and 2s in a trippy, technicolour dream space. This, girls and boys, is how you do it.

Tomas Barfod's Unga Bunga Mix

Tomas Barfod's Unga Bunga Mix

It's actually been waaaay to long since we featured our old friend and TMA-1 collaborator Tomas Barfod on the blog - which is why a fresh Souncloud update from the Great Dane couldn't have come at a better time. In this mix that he created for Danish national radio show Unga Bunga in early 2013, he once again demonstrates his unparalleled ability for balancing mood and texture with rythm and beat. It's one of those melancholy-yet-uplifting selections that just might have you dancing with tears in your eyes, as the song goes. Failing that, listening to it while enjoying a good cup of coffee and looking at the falling snow through your window, should get you good and ready for 2014.

Semiprecious: Bongs, Art and Auctions

Helsinki-based ceramics artist/designer Man Yau has crafted a series of remarkably elegant, conceptual sculptures that look and feel like a million dollars. They’re the sort of trophy-like objects that you might secretly dream of being able to afford - when you move into that swanky new Lower Eastside apartment where Apartamento and Monocle magazines are casually interspersed on the charmingly weathered upholstery of your vintage Eames sofas. However, these sculptures come with an interesting catch; they’re actually fully functional bongs ready to be filled with potent Mary Jane and get you high as a kite.

UNSOUND – How Musicians and Creators Survive in the Age of Free

- is a crowd funded documentary featuring, among other creative heavyweights, Diplo, Jurassic 5 and Ghostly International’s Tycho. According to the producers it: ‘reveals the dramatic collapse of the music industry and the unintended consequences the internet revolution is having on creators of all kinds.’ If this trailer is anything to go by, it does look as if UNSOUND is actually a very legitimate attempt at watching out for starving artists struggling to make ends meet in ‘the ‘age of free.’

Just when you thought the Stones Throw label could not possibly get any doper, they unveil one of the most monumental mega jams in recent memory. The hook up between Snoop and Dâm-Funk is one of those collaborations that makes you go:’ why hasn’t this happened before? And the answer to that question is quite obviously that the stars had to be aligned just right, so that the celestial shine from Planet Funk could focus a twofold beam of iridescent cosmic energy at Snoop’s sizable blunt and Dam-funk’s opulent ‘do - the force of which has pulled these seasoned Caesars of the groove together in the one of most delicious, synthed-out love-ins of all time. Ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, it is our pleasure to present: The Funk. AKA Dâm-Funk and ‘Snoopzilla’ - ‘Faden Away.’

New Flavour in Your Ear: Daniel Avery – ‘Drone Logic’

To some of you, Daniel Avery’s very distinct dance floor flavor isn’t all that new. The 27-year-old producer and resident DJ at Fabric has been doing the rounds on the electronic music circuit and indeed the outer reaches of the known blogosphere for quite a while. But the striking novelty of his debut album lies not in an upcoming talent’s take on the sonic zeitgeist, but in a versatile artist’s singular departure from it.

65daysofstatic's ‘Prisms’

- is the music video that finally proves wrong the guy who made the music video for Authechre’s ‘Gantz Graf.’ Back in 2002, after Alex Rutterford had released the stunning video for Autechre’s equally mesmerizing single, he answered a lot of questions about the creation of the video. And, because people apparently asked him a lot of questions about algorithms, he stated that: ‘it's fool's gold thinking that someone can sit there writing a piece of software that can make intelligent decisions about pace and animation." Well, this has just been proved wrong with Matt Pearson’s creation of a system that interprets audio and generates the striking visuals of the ‘Prisms’ video.

Rising underground label Unknown to the Unknown once again up the ante in the house music stakes with new bit of heat from Lords of Midnite - which we strongly suspect might be another one of Legowelt AKA Danny Wolfer’s multifarious guises. ‘Drown in Your Love’ is everything a summer banger should be with its drifting, aquatic synths, smudged, deconctructed ‘ardcore drum patterns and what you might call ‘xxx-rated, tropical motifs.’, if you were so frivolously inclined.

Project Loon: Balloon-powered Internet Access for the Entire Planet

Yet more proof that we do actually live in remarkable times. Google have apparently found a way to connect everyone to the internet. And when we say say everyone we mean EVERYONE. As in the entire planet. Assuming the project succeeds, this effectively means that the remaining 5-6 billion people who are not wired in like the rest of us will get access to the internet by way of Google’s high-altitude balloons, which will eventually form a planet-covering network. Yes, the ambition and scope of Google’s latest project is dizzying to say the least.
