According to Ableton, Push is a new tangible instrument that solves an old problem: how to make a song from scratch without having computer geek skills and sticking to software and mouse as instrument.
We live in a world of new technologies and amazing materials. How come no one ever told us about Thinking Putty? It’s been on the market since 2010, when Crazy Aaron’s Puttyworld (yes that’s the real name) developed it.
Copenhagen just gained a new architectural icon, located on the waterfront just outside the city. From above it has the shape of a whirlpool. From the ground it looks more like a huge whale that washed up on the shore. The intricate and very 'liquid-y' geometry is constructed by casting concrete around a steel skeleton, before covering it with sheets of aluminum, which all have diamond shapes in same dimensions. This has the added benefit of making the totality of the construction look like fish scales. Yes, it's a sight to behold.
Kinetica Art Fair is about new media, electronics, sound, light and time-based art with a focus on kinetic and robotic art. The fair is a tribute to the exploring of new technologies and ingenious art. The fair was held three weeks ago in the heart of London.
The Gravity stool is invented by the Dutch Artist Jólan van der Wiel, who uses it to craft interior design and furniture with unique tactility and shapes.
The L.A.-based musician Nosaj Thing released “Eclipse/Blue” a few months ago. The track is great but the video is...hard to put into words. The visual made by the artist Daito Manabe who teamed up with takcom, Satoru Higa, and MIKIKO to direct this masterpiece, is produced by the Creators Project, the ongoing, seriously fruitful collab between Intel and Vice. The video expresses a hypnotic compelling perceptional universe of optical illusions and movement.
The future of sketching is coming. WobbleWorks designed a groundbreaking hand held 3D printing device. A pen that can draw in the air! The 3Doodler literally puts the power of 3D printing in the hands of the creator with no need of any technical knowledge, software or computers.
The Thread Wrapping Machine wraps furniture in a cocoon of colored strings. Almost like a spider wrapping its spray the Thread Wrapping Machine, Designed by Anton Alvarez, is fixating furniture components together instead of using traditional methods like nails and screws.
A funny, ingenious masterstroke that made me smile. This very nerdy and curious remix of The Animals' 'House Of The Rising Sun' is one of the most spectacular and coolest covers I’ve heard so far.
By plotting the volume of sound waves on a frequency time graph, Matthew Plummer-Fernandez, turned sound into a physical, 3D chair. After creating and testing 719 different sounds and transforming them into shapes, Plummer-Fernandez achieved his final design. He says, “The aesthetic of sound waves becomes the aesthetic of the chair. The result is a product with dual existence as both a ‘sound’ and a ‘chair’.”
Mama used to tell me to keep both feet on the ground. I normally try to, but Tomas Saraceno’s transparent 'bouncy castle' art installation made me feel like walking on air and I had to let go. I felt like a kid playing in this giant adult playground, which behaves like a suspended trampoline crossed with a see-through bouncy surface.
Run to the beat of your feet! A magic application that synchronizes your music with your running pace is now reality. No kidding!
A stack of cardboard boxes in a room at the MNAC Contemporary Art Museum in Bucharest, Romania seems banal at first glance. It looks like a couple of warehouse guys had a couple beers too many during lunch, which prompted them to mess around in the stockroom, but the artist Zimoun actually cleverly arranged these boxes in collaboration with architect Hannes Zweifel and this sound sculpture installation is in no way a simple device.
Shooting an iPhone video with your friends just got a lot more interesting. Say hello to Vyclone - a social video creation, collaboration, and sharing app for iOS.
One of the coolest object I’ve seen in 2013 so far is this. Re: Sound Bottle is an automatic remixing object that can record all given sounds and then automatically remix them into a music beat. Just pull the cork off the bottle, make or find some sounds to record, and this magical little bottle turns it into music!
Kristian made a dope video for Kúra and he'd like to tell you about it. Take it away, Kristian.
Quantum Stealth! The name sounds like a 007 weapon made by Q. This device is a piece of cloth reminding us of the magical invisibility cloak Harry Potter uses to visually disappear when he hides behind it. It's a garment that renders whatever it covers invisible. In this context Q’s name is Cramer and owner of the Canadian company called Hyperstealth. He claims to have developed this magical camouflage material that works “by bending light waves around the target.”
CphCph is about documenting unseen Copenhagen and conquering impassable places. With no fear of heights and taking private property with a grain of salt, the two man crew consisting of Thue and Anders, explore the most inaccessible and prohibited places in Copenhagen in stunning, vertigo-inducing ways.
This time around the Lebanon and Abu Dhabi-based MZ Architects have thrown themselves into designing a sports facility stadium in the middle of Al Ain in Abu Dhabi, and they truly are pushing the boundaries.
Have you ever been standing in pouring rain – without getting wet? The 'Rain Room' is a hi-tech indoor rainstorm that falls heavily everywhere except on the individual walking through it.
Imaging being able to watch 3 dimensional sounds. This abstract thought is now attempted. With ‘Cylinder’, a series of sculptures, Andy Huntington and Drew Allan are instantiating sounds via sound data analysis and 3D printing.
Touching and visually superior short film by Kahlil Joseph featuring music from the new Flying Lotus album. Words are redundant...
A highly likeable piece of interactive art that elegantly expresses the strength and beauty in the collective human effort.
So science finally decided to wise up and get their act together. This is a test flight on the Hover Bike. A bike that allows the rider to float over the ground.
