LA-based label, Not Not Fun, and its dance offshoot, 100 % Silk, were this year's most interesting newcomers.
As we approach the end of the year, the inevitable end of year rundowns of everything new and notable from 2011 begin to show up. As you browse your favorite music outlet's tally, chances are that you'll find a lot of the usual suspects taking up the top spots. This year, however, there's a new kid on the block among the many familiar names.
Dressed in neon with a backpack full of retro-futuristic vibes, Not Not Fun and 100 % Silk have set the standard for just how far out dance music could take it this year. If you don't believe that, check out what Ital, Maria Minerva, and Peaking Lights have been up to (and see if you can wrap your head around those album covers while you're at it).
To mark the end of the year, label-founders Britt and Amanda Brown have curated a podcast for Self-Titled Magazine, showcasing old and new from various sources of inspiration surrounding the imprint. With healthy doses of leftfield experiments and funky hipster house for everybody, the mixtape should be the perfect tool for spacing out over Christmas or simply for finding out where one of this year's strongest newcomers is headed next.
